Charcoal Grey
28th October 2007
My first car was a hearse.
I expect that it will also be my last.
This continuity, strangely, is comforting.
It has shaded my soul.
Charcoal Grey is
more than a colour swatch option.
So I walk.
To show I am alive, and
to lengthen the journey
between pick up points.

The ease of the tone in this poem is, to me, ‘comforting’, too. I dig its matter-of-fact presentation of the idea, the introspection.
Thanks. This poem just kinda filled my mind after reading a writing prompt about ‘your first car’ over at gotpoetry.com. It makes a few simple statements that you can then arrange to suit yourself.
The first two lines made me laugh…
That’s an interesting reaction, but they are funny I guess.
